Ukrainian sound artist, promoter and producer

Early projects

As musician Dmytro Fedorenko works since early 90’s when he joined jazz-noise group Potercha as bass guitar player. After years of constant psychedelic improvisations and bizarre songs writing band managed to produce outside of the box only two actions – video work “Shchedryk” and one live gig on Perlyny Sezoniv festival in Bila Tserkva. Hundreds of hours of recorded material on tapes were left unreleased after band’s defunct in late 90’s.

Right after quitting his bass and whole live music, Dmytro created duo Z.E.T. together with Eugen Kiktenko. While constantly performing their madness noise in nearly every underground place in Kyiv, Dmytro also took active part in art scene around Contemporary Art Center in Kyiv Mohyla Academy, making music for video-art projects and digging into interactive digital art concepts and contributing ideas to radical Grafoman art-magazine. Few Z.E.T. albums were released as self made cassettes.

In 1999 Dmytro started his main music project – Kotra. Kotra became major tool for the most extreme advanced sound explorations and experiments.

Since beginning Kotra recorded and released 16 solo albums, participated in 12 collaboration releases, contributed tracks for dozens of compilation appearances around the world, wrote music for movies, interactive web projects and installations.

Besides extreme solo works Kotra explores sound in miscellaneous musical and audio-visual collaborations with such artists as Zavoloka, Abs6, Black Rain, Jeff Surak, Moljebka Pvlse, Akuvido, Tenpoint, Marek Choloniewski, Jonas Grushka, Kim Cascone, Andrey Kiritchenko, Dunaewsky69, Andreas Berthling and many other artists.

All these years Kotra presents his radical ideas on many International festivals and special events in Europe, USA and Asia. Among other events Kotra performed on such festivals as Clubtransmediale (DE), Unsound (PL), Sonic Circuits (USA), Garage festival (DE), Noise&Fury festival (RU), Being The Future (DE), Resistance (SK), Soundbridges (AT), Detali Zvuku (UA), Cimatics (BE), Audio Art (PL), Radius (AT), Kvitnu Fest (UA), …
